Boer War Gold Kaal Pond (P.O.W. Trench Art / Sweetheart Piece)

Boer War trench art and sweetheart jewellery made from coins of the ZAR are extremely collectable, especially if they were made from gold pieces. 

This coin was initially in a brooch and most probably presented to a sweetheart after the war. This is the variety of the Kaal Pond with a rim, also called the Machadadorp issue. For a short period during the Boer War, the ZAR government in exile was stationed here.
