Thomas Arthur Chilcott was born in Simonstown in the Cape Colony in 1880.
On 11 January 1901 at the age of 21, he attested at Cape Town with Warren’s Mounted Infantry, and with no. 102, for service in the Boer War. (According to the Nominal Roll Chilcott attested on 16 January 1901) At the time he was resident at Mount Pleasant, Simonstown and provided his father, Mr. Thomas Chilcott of the same address as his next of kin. He was a Carpenter by trade.
Warren’s Mounted Infantry, about 3 squadrons strong, was raised in December 1900, and was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel F J Warren, who had already seen service in other Colonial regiments.
Chilcott was discharged after six months service on 20 July 1901
