From the Boer War, the Large Silver National Commemorative Medal. The image of the British soldier on the obverse is from the drawing by Carlton-Woodville known as the Gentleman in Khaki. The proceeds from the sale of this medal went to Daily Mail for the Kipling Poem War Fund to help support the families of soldiers who volunteered for service.
Gilded Silver. Diameter 45.2 mm. Mass 59.4 gm. There is no silver mark but the weight is right for silver. Bronze examples have a mass of about 44 gm. Some wear. A few minor scratch marks. One small rim knock, silver test scratches and a few nicks on the edge. Attractively toned. The tone has masked the gilding which is faint.
