Firstly, there is a lot more research to be done as it is clearly engraved to an important officer!
As I have limited knowledge and no access to boer war 'files' I have included as many pictures and details as possible so that an informed decision can be made.
From what I can deduce, the handle was 'browned' on purpose to minimise glare. The grip is worn as can be expected in battle.
I have made no attempt at all to 'clean' or 'de-rust' the blade as I fear it might detract from the 'patina' and therefore the value.
The engravings are as follows : Lt. Colonel T. H. Rodger DSO / a crown and under the crown : Kimberley Regt.
On the other side : a crown and under the crown the Edward V11 crest then another crest with a lion and a unicorn. Then at the hilt, the maker's : Robson and Sons -1-3-5- Lexington St. London.
The scabbard is in good condition and the sword slides in really well.
