Boer War P.O.W. 'St Helena 1901' Wooden Dip Pen (H.S. Steenvaart)

 

This very early, scarce, 'Prisoner of War' dip pen has been hand carved out of fruit wood featuring a hand at the top and a rounded piece at the other end to attach your metal nibs when needed. The hollow rounded shaft in the centre has two pierced and cut 'twirling zip' grooves with the engraved wording 'ST HELENA 27-4-1901' in between, and the name 'H.S. STEENVAART'. On either side of this, it's engraved with diamond and panel cut decoration. This lovely historical piece is in great condition and measures 17cm in length.
