Framed display of Boer War relics originating from the Paardeberg battlefield. Includes a soldered "bully beef: (?) tin top, two 303 Lee-Metford / Enfield cartridge cases, one 7x57mm Mauser cartridge case, part of a foil type 450/577 Martini-Henry cartridge case, a shotgun case base, a boot heel iron, a flattened lead bullet point, some buckles and crate strapping. All mounted on a map of the battlefield. The frame interior is a bit dusty, probably form storage?
General Piet Cronje and around 4000 Boers surrendered at Paardeberg on 27 February 1900 after his wagon laager had been bombarded to smithereens by British artillery. Today unfortunately very little of the tons of relics that were left behind on the battlefield remains.
