A chocolate tin aspresented to British troops during the Boer War by Queen Victoria. The tin isgilt and has a red lid with a coloured border. There is a circular embossedportrait of Queen Victoria in the centre, coloured gold. To the left of the portrait is the Royalmonogram 'V R I' below a crown, and to the right, 'SOUTH AFRICA 1900'.
Sadly it is empty now, but it originally contained pieces of chocolate wrapped in silver paper marked eikter "Cadburys", "Rowntree" or "Fry" as well as afacsimile of a hand-written inscription: 'I wish you a happy New Year Victoria R I.'
Good condition with little or no rust.
