Boer War rarity: 1901 POW Taxed proving cover Ladybrand/Bloem/Green Point/St. Helena. See below.

POW number 569 Jan Hendrik Fouche Van Den Berg from Doornbult, district Wolmaransstad,

aged 22, was captured at Paardekraaal in February 1900 at the defeat of the forces under General Cronje.

He was sent to Green Point POW camp and from there to St. Helena.

The cover has:

1.  Censor Seal No. 15 on yellow paper used at Ladybrand

2.  with the manuscript initials of the censor "TDV",

3.  and the stamped initials on front of censor "QR"; also the 

4.  very scarce 38 mm long "PRISONER OF WAR" violet handstamp applied at Ladybrand.

5.  Because of the invalid use of the OFS adhesive, the cover was taxed "T 2d".

6. The cover was routed from Ladybrand with cds (FE 21 '01) and BONC 17 via Bloemfontein (FE 22 '01) to 

Green Point (FE 27 '01)

7.  Manuscript endorsement "St Helena""
