POW number 5086 Lucas Cornelis van den Berg, aged 32,  was taken prisoner at Paardeberg

on 27/2/1900. He was then interned on the British POW ship "City of Cambridge" in Simonstown harbour before being sent to St. Helena.

The rare cover on offer was routed from Kroonstad (AP 27 '00) - with 2 x 1d OFS stamps as well as a bisect 1d stamp - via Pretoria (arrived 29 AP '00), left Pretoria (1 MEI '00) after having being censored and the Boer Censor label applied, reached Durban (cds under British censor label) and then was forwarded to Simonstown. where he would have been quartered aboard the City of Cambridge before being shipped off to St. Helena.

Cover is missing top right corner and has been roughly opened but still a scarce and unique cover.

As per scans below.
