THE CAPE ARGUS. Tuesday January 14, 1902. This edition of the Argus has items of news from the war front, as well as an announcement from the Mayor of Cape Town regarding a projected meeting to discuss appropriate local celebrations for the forthcoming Coronation of the King. There is also a large ad, calling for recruits for The Imperial Light Horse, Driscoll's Scouts, and Damant's Horse. Another ad seeks recruits for the Cape Medical Staff Corps for service in Headquarters Queen's Town and Headquarters Piquetberg Road. Cape Town was also informed, via Reuter's Cable that the Union Castle steamer Braemar Castle had stranded at midnight on Gurnard's Head on the Isle of Wight.
The newspaper has taken on the brownish hue of old newsprint. There are quite a few closed edge tears of varying lengths, and a small corner of one page is missing with a few words of print. On the front page, where the corner of the bisecting folds occurs, there is a loose piece of paper, still attached, which can be, with care, successfully patched in.without loss of print. See pictures for general condition.
