Bombardment of Ladysmith Anticipated tells the story of the Siege of Ladysmith from the perspective of George Charles Maidment, a British orderly who survived the 119 days of the siege. Alan Chalmers has reproduced George Maidment's diary in full with only minor corrections and included his own insightful commentary. This is a fascinating and detailed account of events of the siege: the daily tedium, the fighting, the sniping, the lack of food and the disgust at having to eat their own horses.
