This item is an authentic Bophuthatswana Defence Force (BDF) Military School cap badge.
Bophuthatswana was one of the former homelands (Bantustans) established during the apartheid era, and it maintained its own defence force until reintegration into South Africa in 1994.
The badge features a green shield with crossed traditional weapons a spear and an axe surrounded by a wreath. The scroll at the bottom carries the Tswana motto KISO KE MARTIA, which translates to Knowledge is Strength.
Badges from the BDF have become increasingly collectible due to their short period of issue and the disbandment of the force in 1994.
