An EXCELLENT example of Border War, 1980s SADF 1 Special Service Battalion Unit Brass Plaque Mount Escutcheon.  This piece appears to be in a VF/F state , with detailed Relief on  obverse. All insignia present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Gilded surface finish appears 95% intact and is lustrous.  A small degree of surface wear will be visible on edges / corners of contact. All pin holes / mount portals remain intact. 

This piece would have been Mounted as per the Unit requirements of 1 SSB during the Border War Era - to promote formation cohesion. The Unit performed well during the Conflict in SWA/ Angola as a Mechanized / Armoured Brigade.
