While on the run, he teams up with Marti, a girl who is smart, pretty and independent, and Disco, a mate from his school who got endorsed but Marti managed to get the wand out. For the next few weeks, they work together trying to get food and staying hidden from the student patrols looking out for abstainers. Just when they think they're on their own, they stumble across a meeting of teenage abstainers from all over Dunedin and now had a new goal: to help all the abstainers.
