Vintage Assistant Scoutmaster hat badge with original red plume and fleur-de-lis design, worn on lemon-squeezer hats during the mid-20th century.
This item is a vintage Boy Scouts Assistant Scoutmaster hat badge, complete with its original red plume (also called a hackle or cockade). The badge shows the traditional Boy Scout fleur-de-lis / arrowhead emblem set inside a metal circle.
The red plume was used specifically for Assistant Scoutmasters, distinguishing their role from Scoutmasters and other leaders. This pattern was issued by the Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom, and also worn across Commonwealth countries including South Africa between approximately 1950 and 1964.
These plumed badges were typically worn on the wide-brimmed felt lemon-squeezer hats used by adult leaders during that period and are now collectable Scouting memorabilia.
