Vintage Scoutmaster hat badge with green plume and fleur-de-lis design, used by adult leaders in the Scout Movement. Collectable Boy Scouts insignia.
This item is a vintage Boy Scouts Scoutmaster hat badge fitted with a green plume (also called a hackle or cockade). The central badge shows the traditional fleur-de-lis emblem with the motto Be Prepared on the scroll below (the motto is partly obscured in the photo, which is typical on worn examples).
The green plume identified the wearer as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster. These badges originated from the Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom, and the pattern was also used in other Commonwealth countries, including South Africa, during the 1950s through to the early 1970s.
They were commonly worn on the felt lemon-squeezer style hats used by adult leaders during this era and are now collected as historical Scouting memorabilia.
