BP TREASURE TROVE 1/2 DECATOON 1656 / BP SKATKIS 1/2 DEKATON 1656. 

These tokens were never legal tender but was distributed in the late 1960's at BP service stations around SA as a collectable incentive, and were a series of 5-coin replica tokens reflecting the numismatic heritage of South Africa, which were;

* 1696 Rix Dollar (Riijksdaalder),

^1656 Half Ducatoon. 

* c. 1620 Piece of Eight,

* Japanese Koban.

*  Veldpond.

This one is the 1656 1/2 Ducatoon and has a hole drilled through the top, but it still remains a collectable item. 

The obverse reflects the head of King Philip IV (1621 - 1665), with script in Latin: "Phil . IIII . D.G. Hisp. Et. Indiar R.EX." which means: "Philip IV, by the grace of God, King of the Spains and the Indies".

The reverse reflecting: "BP TREASURE TROVE 1/2 DECATON 1656 / BP SKATKIS 1/2 DEKATOON 1656".

Made of pewter, weighing +_7.67gr, with a diameter of 30.5mm, and 1.75mm thickness.
