ON AUCTION IS A PAIR OF VINTAGE POSSIBLY ANTIQUE BRASS BABY BIRD MATCH HOLDERS. WITH OPEN MOUTHES AND RED EYES AND LOTS OF AGED PATINA THEY RESEMBLE AND ARE IN THE STYLE OF SIMILAR VICTORIAN MATCH HOLDERS THAT WAS FOUND IN HOTELS SITTING AROUND OIL LAMPS AND IN TAVERNS OR BARS READY FOR SMOKERS.
 
These figural baby birds with mouths open wide, are relatively heavy (65g) cast brass metal for matches stuck in mouth, tail flares out in back for support, red glass rhinestones for eyes. It has feathers down the back supposedly for striking matches although I could not manage to do that. Typical of the type of match holder that would be sitting around in taverns or hotels for oil lamps or smoking customers in Victorian times.
