A heavy, solid brass ashtray featuring a profile of a horses head in relief. The tray is designed with a shallow bowl and can serve as a desktop catch-all (vide poche) or a functional ashtray. The underside features three integral feet for stability.
PROVENANCE & HISTORY
Origin: Likely United Kingdom or Continental Europe (Portugal/France).
Period: Mid-20th Century (Circa 1950s1970s).
Background: Equestrian-themed brassware was a staple of mid-century desk and "gentleman's club" décor. The three small "button" feet are a characteristic feature of sand-cast brass from this period, designed to elevate the heated metal from polished surfaces. While similar in style to the American "Virginia Metalcrafters" or British "Peerage" ranges, unmarked versions were frequently produced by smaller foundries across Europe.
SPECIFICATIONS & CONDITION
Dimensions: 17cm x 13cm x 2cm.
Material: Solid cast brass.
Condition: Displays a natural, darkened patina consistent with age. There are minor surface scuffs and tarnish within the relief details. The casting is solid with no cracks, and all three integral feet are intact.
