Bravely Default II (Nintendo Switch)

Bravely Default II is a turn-based RPG developed by Claytechworks and published by Square Enix for the Nintendo Switch. It follows a new cast of characters in an entirely separate world from previous Bravely games.

Story

The game takes place in Excillant, a continent divided into five kingdoms. The protagonist, Seth, is a young sailor who washes ashore and joins forces with Gloria, a princess seeking to reclaim stolen elemental crystals; Elvis, a scholar studying Asterisks (powerful artifacts); and Adelle, a mercenary aiding Elvis. Together, they journey across Excillant to prevent a catastrophe caused by the misuse of the crystals.

Gameplay

• Turn-Based Combat: Players can use the Brave and Default mechanics to manage turns strategicallyBrave allows multiple actions per turn, while Default lets characters build up turns defensively.
• Job System: Characters can equip Asterisks to gain new jobs (classes), such as Black Mage, Vanguard, or Thief, each with unique abilities. Jobs can be mixed and matched to create custom skill sets.
• Exploration: Players travel across towns, dungeons, and the overworld, completing quests and battling foes.
• Side Quests & Mini-Games: There are numerous optional missions, and a strategic card-based mini-game called B'n'D.

Reception

Bravely Default II was praised for its deep combat system, engaging job mechanics, and nostalgic RPG feel. However, some critics noted a slow-paced story and difficulty spikes.
