Penguin Modern Classics, 1973, softcover, 206 pages, condition: very good.

Brief Candles is the fifth collection of short fiction written by Aldous Huxley, published in 1930. The book consists of three short stories and a novella.Brief Candles takes its title from a line in Macbeth's famous soliloquy:Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Aldous Huxley (1894 1963) was an English writer and philosopher. His bibliography spans nearly 50 books, including novels and non-fiction works, as well as essays, narratives, and poems. He spent the latter part of his life in the United States, living in Los Angeles from 1937 until his death. By the end of his life, Huxley was widely acknowledged as one of the foremost intellectuals of his time.
