This is a British Pattern 1885 Cavalry Trooper's Saber used from the period of about 1885 to about 1900. Simple half-basket hilt with rundimentary Maltese Cross pattern on front of sheet-metal guard. This pattern is very similar to the British Pattern 1864, the only real obvious difference being the sword knot slot - it is single vertical slot on the 1885, double horizontal slots on the 1864. Both of these patterns are evolutions of the British Pattern 1853 Cavalry Trooper's Saber. Slightly curved single-edged blade with squared back-edge; single fuller (both sides), un-stopped.
