First published in 1879, British Fresh-water fishes is a natural history of fish by the Shropshire clergyman and naturalist William Houghton. In preparation for the work, Houghton studied specimens kept at the British Museum. The 41 coloured plates were printed by Benjamin Fawcett who had developed an innovative method of wood-block colour printing.
