British made Chapman (J.A.C.) Pattern 1907 bayonet and scabbard (Dated 1916)
This is a Pattern 1907 bayonet for use with the Lee-Enfield rifle no1 mk3 , better known as the SMLE. The stamped details on the ricasso show a date of 3 16 under the Royal Cypher, 1907 for the Pattern, and J.A.C. for James A. Chapman, as the manufacturer. The other side shows more inspection marks, bent test and broad arrow mark. The blade is in excellent, straight condition, with a good even bright steel finish to it's whole length. Good point and unsharpened edge, a super example. Both wooden grips are complete but some light damage as shown on one grip, a No 68 on the one grip. Good release button. The oval frog-stud scabbard isunbent, a small part of the stitching are loose, inspection marked on throat. A lovely piece of history to compliment any WW1 collection.
