Two books and two booklets offering insight into the early life of Queen Elizabeth II :
"The King's Daughters" by Lady Cynthia Asquith (1937) - starting with (then-Princess) Elizabeth's birth, and through her and Princess Margaret's early childhood days, this is an interesting read on her family up to her father's coronation in May 1937. Being the second son (the Duke of York), her father was never meant to be king, so the family was under less pressure and attention than others before or after him. These carefree days came to an end when his older brother, Edward VIII, abdicated in 1936, making Elizabeth's parents monarchs King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The book is well-written, if a little fawning (the princesses never set a foot wrong in anything they do), and gives insight on Elizabeth and Margaret's close relationship with their caring parents, uncles, and grandparents King George V and Queen Mary. - The book is in fair condition, and is presumed to be a first edition.
"The Princess Elizabeth's Gift Book" (1937) follows the trend of monarchs' daughters releasing books of favourite stories in aid of charity. This one was released to benefit the Princess Elizabeth of York Hospital for Children. It is in reasonable condition, and has an inscription on a leading page as shown in one of the photos. Presumed to be a first edition.
"The First Golden Gift Book of Prince Charles and Princess Anne", and "Princess Anne, A First Souvenir Book" are two small booklets about the Queen's two older children, born before her ascent to the Throne. They offer lots of photos and information about Charles and Anne, their parents, and of several earlier generations Royal family. Both are in good condition considering their age.
