PROFILE

Carlos Neto is a Mozambican born artist who became a permanent resident of South Africa in 1966. He studied art at Athlone Boys High, where he displayed abilities in oil painting and drawing, but soon discovered his true passion, sculpture.

For the past 25 years Carlos Neto has been working with a wide range of materials and methods including cast stone, fibreglass, wood and finally, bronze. Carlos does all the work himself, from mould making, casting, metal finishing and finally the patinas.

This way he has more control and freedom on all facets of the bronze casting process. His work has been varied from the classic to the romantic, but as wide ranging as his customers. His technical skills are well adept to handle the various styles required.

While much of his work has been commissions, his preference is for modern figure, displaying the human form with contrasts and curves which allows self-expression, a style that has proved popular in his animal figures and nudes. Now set up in his own foundry, he works mainly in bronze, enjoying the permanence of this ancient art.
