Gifted artist, wood carver, engraver, sculptor, expert in designing brass and silverware, philatelist, authority on heraldry, land surveyor, traveller, geologist, archaeologist and director of companies - the list of his interests and accomplishments seems endless and his output was considerable. Yet for over a century after his death Charles Bell was little known.
