The author has hand written a signed card of thanks, tipped into the book at the front free endpaper: " Dear Mick, Thank you for the foreword. It reads so well. Marius." Also signed by Marius Diemont on the title page, and signed by Corbett on the front free endpaper. Book is near fine, clean and tight with slight wear to bottom edge of boards. In a bright near fine dust jacket with slightly faded spine. The personal copy of the writer of the foreword, Chief Justice Michael ( "MIck" ) Corbett, who was Chief Justice of South Africa from 1989-1996. He began his legal career when he read in the chambers of the author of this book, then-Advocate Marius Diemont, for six weeks before commencing practice and beginning his meteoric rise to top of the profession. Corbett was also a legal writer of note and co-authored standard legal textbooks. He swore in Nelson Mandela as president and was instrumental in the CODESA talks. Throughout their long careers together Corbett often looked to Judge Diemont as his original mentor. This book is a readable and entertaining account of the latter's interesting life experiences, written for the layperson and legal expert alike.
