Kwan Yin is the female form of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion (the Goddess of Mercy), but is often depicted as both male and female to show her limitless transcendence beyond gender. Her name means "she who hears the cries of the world."

THE GODDESS OF MERCY AND COMPASSION KUAN YIN IS FOUND IN ALMOST EVERY CHINESE BUDDHISM TEMPLE IN THE WORLD.
