BUFFEL

SADF MINE PROTECTED APC (ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIER) 1978

Depicting some Beret badges at the top worn by some units who were involved with the Buffel. Due to a lack of space other relevant unit badges could not be included.

At the Bottom are 5 different flashes of the OPERATIONAL SECTORS within South West Africa (Namibia) during the Bush War.

Some of these sector symbols were spray painted onto the front of the Buffel for identification of which the illustrator personally did for Sector 2 Zero (52 BN) based in Ogongo during 1982.

SIZE: 42 cm X 29,7 cm on thick 200 gsm matt white stock paper with a white border all round.

The Buffel. A lot of research went into comprising the poster to make it as authentic as possible and military abbreviations are used in some instances such as 'BN' instead of Battalion and 'Parabats' instead of Parachutists. It was a difficult decision to use typical nicknames ie 'Sappers' for the Engineers and 'Tiffies' for the T.S.C.

The Buffel was a unique Mine Protected APC vehicle that transported troops and towed essential equipment during the South African Bush War campaigns.

The Vehicle was designed based on the Mercedes-Benz 'Unimog' and the Buffel is still being used in quite a few countries.

The poster also tries to illustrate how the carriage would be protected in the event of a bomb blast.

A great discussion piece for all veterans that have sat in it and lived to tell a tale regarding the amazing BUFFEL.
