 They are made of copper and some brass trimmings.     I doubt is they had ever been to sea.

They are a very popular item for people to have mounted on their veranda, or near the front gate.   Fish restaurants use them on display regularly.

They do have an area on the top that has been pressed in, reversing this should not be a big problem.

They have already been made so that electric globes can be fitted.
