For this reason the breed is often nicknamed ¿Black Pearl¿.Friesians are nowadays exclusively bred to have a black, shiny coat. They have a long, curly mane and a thick tail hair. Typical of the breed is feathery, silky hair on the legs. The Friesian has a strong body with a curved neck, large eyes and small ears.The Friesian is a strong, docile and reliable horse. With their sweeping gaits and a high knee action, Friesians are mainly used as dressage and show horses. Due to their enormous strength, Friesians are also often used as draught horses. In horseracing, the breed belongs to the absolute cream of the crop.
