Book looks brand new to me BUT it has a single library stamp in front - Shows 8 maps - 1991 edition.   >>>   The controversial Battle at Xa Long Tan was not only a critical episode in Australia's Vietnam involvement; it was also a textbook nightmare in the history of jungle warfare. Reconstructing this dramatic action from secret documents and the vivid recollections of many diggers who fought at Long Tan, Terry Burstall challenges the official army version.   >>>   The Battle at Long Tan, on 18 August 1966 remains the defining moment for most of Australia's Vietnam War veterans. Burstall has written the defining book about that battle and its aftermath in The Soldiers' Story.   >>>    Terry Burstall has worked as a horsebreaker, drover, farmhand, rodeo rider and builder's labourer. In July 1965 he enlisted in the army and was posted to Vietnam, taking part in the critical Battle of Long Tan. He completed his tour of duty in 1967, and after leaving the army in 1968, spent three years in New Guinea managing a plantation. His best-selling account of a soldier's, Vietnam, The Soldier's Story, was published in 1986, followed by A Soldier Returns in 1990. Terry Burstall completed his doctorate at Griffith University in 1991 and now works as a freelance writer and historian in Brisbane. His most recent publications with UQP are Vietnam- The Australia Dilemma (1993) and The Soldier's Story- the Battle at Xa Long Tan, Vietnam (1998), which combines the two volumes of his popular memoirs.        * War * Biography *
