This authentic, vintage maritime souvenir brooch badge features the R.M.M.V. Capetown Castle. It is beautifully designed in the shape of a traditional ships steering wheel. The center features the iconic house flag of the famous Union-Castle Mail Steamship Co., captured in vibrant blue, white, and red enamel detailing. Below the flag, a blue enamel scroll proudly bears the ship's name, "R-M.M.V. CAPETOWN CASTLE". This piece is a highly collectible item for naval historians, militaria enthusiasts, and ocean liner memorabilia collectors alike.

The Royal Mail Motor Vessel (R.M.M.V.) Capetown Castle was a legendary passenger liner built by the renowned shipbuilders Harland & Wolff in Belfast. She was launched on September 23, 1937, and began her regular commercial service in 1938 on the Southampton-to-South Africa mail route. At the time of her launch, she held the distinction of being the longest motorship in the world.

Following the outbreak of World War II, she was requisitioned by the British government in January 1940 under the Liner Requisition Scheme to be converted into a vital troopship. During her wartime service, she played a monumental role in global logistics, most notably participating in Operation Bolero in 1943the massive buildup of Allied forces in the United Kingdom ahead of the D-Day landings. By the time she was returned to her commercial owners in 1946, she had safely traveled over 484,000 miles and transported more than 164,000 troops. Following a full refit, she returned to her beloved South African service in January 1947, operating faithfully until she was retired and sold for scrap in 1967.

In good vintage condition with age related wear. Approximately 35mm in diameter.
