Solid, dark red, round heads of fine texture, excellent for pickling and for speciality cooked dishes. Summer/Autumn maturing. The ideal site for cabbages is any well drained ground, but they prefer a medium to light soil which will retain a reasonable amount of water. Prepare the ground with manure, several months before sowing. If the ground has not been manured, apply a general fertiliser before sowing. Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (¿ inch) deep in drills 15-20cm (6-8 inches) apart in soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. Transplant to 45-60cm (18-24 inches) apart.
