An old Eastern European heirloom producing unique, red pointed hearts. Cabbage Kalibos is best grown for late summer and autumn use when firm, solid hearts have few waste outer leaves. Ideal shredded raw in salads as the colour reduces on cooking. The ideal site for cabbages is any well drained ground, but they prefer a medium to light soil which will retain a reasonable amount of water. Prepare the ground with manure, several months before sowing. If the ground has not been manured, apply a general fertiliser before sowing. Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (½ inch) deep in drills 38cm (15 inches) apart in soil that has been raked fine.
