Calcium Nitrate is one of the most important supplements you can give your plants. It strengthens roots, prevents nutrient deficiencies, and is vital when using coco husks or coco peat as a growing medium. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned grower, this product is an essential part of keeping plants healthy and thriving.
Packaged in 500g tub.
Commonly known as: Calcium Nitrate
Formula: Ca(NO)
This is a water-soluble fertiliser that delivers two key nutrients in one: calcium (Ca²) and nitrate nitrogen (NO). Together, these play a crucial role in plant health and growth. Calcium strengthens plant cell walls, ensuring sturdier stems and leaves, while nitrate nitrogen provides an immediately available form of nitrogen that fuels leafy growth.
Prevents deficiencies: Calcium deficiency often shows up as distorted new growth or blossom end rot in crops like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. Regular application of Ca(NO) prevents these issues.
Supports strong roots: Calcium is essential for root development, ensuring plants anchor well and absorb nutrients efficiently.
Fast nitrogen uptake: The nitrate form of nitrogen is immediately available to plants, making it ideal for quick uptake during active growth.
Coco husks and coco peat are popular soilless mediums, but they naturally contain high levels of sodium (Na) and potassium (K), which can block calcium and magnesium uptake. Buffering with Ca(NO) is critical before planting, as the calcium ions displace the sodium and potassium ions, flushing them out of the coco. This process prepares the medium to properly hold calcium and magnesium, ensuring plants have access to the nutrients they need from day one.
As a fertiliser: Dissolve Ca(NO) in water and apply as part of your feeding routine, particularly during active growth phases.
For buffering coco: Soak coco husks or peat in a Ca(NO) solution before planting to neutralise excess salts.
For consistent growth, combine Calcium Nitrate with a balanced nutrient program. It pairs well with potassium nitrate, magnesium sulphate, and phosphates in hydroponic or soil-based feeding.
