Description:
Upright evergreen shrub, or occasionally a small tree. Stiff, mid-green leaves, the young foliage being purple flushed and covered with downy white hairs. Deep magenta pink bottlebrush flower spikes in summer.

Cultivation:
Well drained, preferably neutral to acid soil in full sun. Dislikes shallow chalky soils. Warm, sheltered position and may need winter protection in cold areas. Prune after flowering, cutting back to healthy sideshoots. Extensive pruning should be spread over several years.

Propagation:
From semi-ripe cuttings in summer.

Design and Other Uses:
Focal point.
