CAMEL TREE

Acacia Erioloba

You are bidding on 5 seeds

An example of an Acacia Erioloba bonsai

The Camel Thorn varies in height and spread and occurs as a spiny shrub of 2m tall to a tree that grows up to 16m tall. In gardens, it usually grows between 6 and 8m tall. The bark of a mature tree is a dark grey and deeply furrowed. It produces a profusion of sweetly scented bright yellow flower balls in late winter and early spring and has the sharpest thorns of all Acacias.  Popular for bonsai.

The wood is considered one of the best quality sources of firewood and charcoal in South Africa and the seeds can be roasted and used as a substitute for coffee.

The name 'Camel Thorn' refers to the fact that giraffe commonly feed on the leaves with their specially adapted lips and tongue that can avoid the thorns.

Sowing instructions will be emailed after purchase
