Common names: Candle Thorn of Trassiedoring

Acacia hebeclada ssp. chobiensis is only found growing naturally along the banks of the Okavango, Linyanti, Chobe and upper Zambezi rivers.

It is a drooping shrub or tree with erect seed pods, hence the common name.  The drooping nature of this Acacia makes it a perfect bonsai for the cascade style.

In Botswana there are reports of increasing numbers of elephants causing degradation of Acacia stands along the Chobe especially in the dry season.
