All of the above mentioned products, except for the 3x Hahnel batteries, are genuine Canon products. I'm upgrading my kit and the money will go towards the upgrade. The camera and all accessories are less than 3 years old.
The Canon 450D and 18-55mm lens are in excellent condition, no scratches or marks. The Canon 450D has a screen protector (I will include extras). The camera was never used in harsh conditions and well cared for.
The battery grip (seen attached to the bottom of the camera) is also in excellent condition. The Dummies guide is in great condition and may have one or two notes written in.
Hahnel is a well known alternative brand and supported by camera brands. Two of the Hahnel batteries were bought a few months ago (used as backups).
The Lowepro bag was bought at the end of last year and was also kept as a backup as I use backpacks and is practically new.
This is a great advanced entry level camera for anyone starting out in photography. I would have loved to have kept the Canon 450D as well but I won't make the upgrade if I do :-). The 18-55mm lens is the only one in this kit but is a lens you will want to keep (my upgrade includes a 18-55mm).
In comparison to the later models of Canon cameras, the Canon 450D has the following advantages:
Better colour depth, about 30% smaller and 20% thinner in size, 40% less delay when taking photos and turning on, longer battery life, higher pixel pitch (larger pixels that handle noise better and higher dynamic range).
Long exposure allows for Painting with Light techniques as well as Astrophotography. I have also taken photos of microorganisms with a microscope and the Canon 450D. You don't need expensive equipment for the above mentioned techniques, just a good lens, camera body and tripod.
The software CD include with the Canon 450D contains 6 different programs, each with their own use. For example, DPP (Digital Photo Professional) is Canon's popular photo manipulation software that allows you to work directly from RAW format or JPEG. Here, if you are saving photos in RAW format, you can add lighting options, add or remove flash and more. In RAW format you can work in DPP as if you were working in camera. Photostitch is also included allowing you to create panoramic photos
A great addition would be a 50mm f1.8 which you can buy from places like Orms and SA Camera (known as the nifty fifty for being extremely sharp and a great price). The Canon 450D is impressive with a 100mm macro lens. The photo below was taken with the Canon 450D and a macro lens (macro lens not included).
The two photos below were taken with the 18-55mm lens that you are getting with the camera.
The photo below shows the zoom capabilities of the 18-55mm lens included with the camera. All 3 photos were taken from the same distance and position. The 18-55mm is a wide angle (allows you take in more of the scenery and works great for landscapes) and a mid-telephoto zoom lens.
I would suggest insurance on the order (3% of the item value as directed by the post office).
