Design and Ergonomics
This DVD camcorder is sub-compact and weighs 260g with Dimensions of 58 x 60 x 124mm
The FS100 has a 112k pixel LCD screen that is 2.7 inches wide, and a viewfinder that displays in colour.
A joystick controller is situated on the frame of the LCD for easy access and its light weight makes it portable and comfortable even in smaller hands.
Lens and audio visual quality
The FS100 has a 37 x optical, 2000 x digital zoom and the DIGIC DV 2 processor producing videos of 700K pixels and still images of 800K pixels.
This cam consists of a 1/6” interlaced sensor, improving the overall quality of the images and clear sound is captured by the Dolby Digital 2ch audio system
SD/SDHC recording System and Features
The FS100 records only in high definition to SD or SDHC cards (the same cards used widely in digital stills cameras) which means users store their video footage onto small, interchangeable and reusable media. Recording direct to SDHC memory cards means there are no moving parts in the recording section, which means that the camcorder is exceptionally resistant to impact and tough conditions and the use of SD recording media is in part responsible for the ultra compact build achievable with SD camcorders. Current capacities are available up to 16 GB for recording times of 160 minutes at the highest quality setting, approximately 4 hours recording time in normal mode and 6 hours in economy mode. The resolution in all of these modes remains a constant 1920 x1080 pixels but the bit rate varies between settings.
Technology features
The DIGIC DV II engine in the FS100 offers faster processing speeds and advanced noise reduction to present perfect colour display that can be captured in widescreen, using Canon’s True Wide High Resolution technology.
The electronic Image Stabilizer counteracts vibration and shake while you shoot, effectively improving the quality of your videos and still.
Pressing the "Quick Start" button enables the "Stand By" mode, conserving battery power during shooting down time.
The minimum light sensitivity of the FS100 is 1.7 lux, but it is possible to use the light from the LCD screen, that would be swivelled toward the subject in low light conditions.
FS100 comes complete with a Pixela ImageMixer 3 SE powerful software to help you manage and edit videos and still images.
Connectivity
The FS100 has a VCR mode for viewing videos in-camera, as well as an AV cable that is connectable to a Television. Footage can be viewed on or transferred to PC using the 2.0 high speed USB cable.
