An opportunity to own this solid silver canteen of cutlery by American silversmiths Westmoreland in the very popular and attractive art nouveau inspired George and Martha pattern. It consists of 52 pieces and serves 8 (soup only 7). It consists of 8 dinner knives (22.5cm - sterling handles, stainless steel blades), 8 dinner forks (18cm, 383grams), 8 salad forks (15.5cm, 273 grams), 7 soup spoons (15.5cm, 249grams), 16 teaspoons (15cm, 487grams), 1 gravy ladle (+-18cm, 95 grams), 2 tablespoons (21cm, 132 grams), 1 butter knife (17.5cm, 37 grams) and one sugar spoon (15cm, 35 grams). All pieces are marked Wesmoreland Sterling, are unmonogrammed, and are in good condition (a few of the teaspoons have slight wear to the tips, not noticable to the eye, but can be detected with the touch). Comes complete with a Westmoreland canteen box which has a vacant brass nameplate, and its brass handles and lifting handle. There is no locking device and never has been. This pattern was never produced with dessert spoons (you can by ice-cream spoons, iced-teaspoons and all sorts of fancies, but no dessert, hence two sets of teaspoons. I have seen a number of American patterns that do the same. The pattern is also still in production, so you could add extras to it, or make it up to 12 if so desired. But eight is a useful number. A really really lovely set that would cost at least R15000 in the states.
Please note, this set has an unpacked weight of just under 5kg, so domestic postage will have to be R50. I would also strongly recommend insurance at 2%. At that price it may be cheaper to courier it and will investigate rates if desired. I will also probably be making a trip to the Eastern Cape and Free State in January, and may be able to deliver, if on route.
