According to Putzel, the first post office at Saron operated from 1853 to 1865 when it closed only to reopen in 1881.
The "On Service" wrapper (paper watermarked "SCOTT SUNNY DALE 1860") on offer was posted from "P.O. Saron" on 31 October 1865 with Double Arc datestamp, received indistinct red transit Dated Town Oval handstamp on the same day, and arrived at Cape Town on 1 November 1865.
Considered a unique Saron postal history cover.
