Capellini's Bicycle - Tony Ullyatt (Winner of SALA for poetry)

For more than twenty years, whether in Bloemfontein, East London, Stellenbosch, or Port Elizabeth, Tony Ullyatt has produced a substantial body of work in the Japanese senryū form.The majority of these pieces have been written in coffee shops, an environment which, despite their bustle, he finds conducive for writing.

Capellinis Bicycle gathers all senryu written in the time after he had moved to Port Elizabeth permanently following the death of his wife. Capellinis was one of the first coffee shops he discovered, and it remains a place he frequents regularly.
