Pastel portrait, unsigned, (1868),original, framed under glass in the oval, 85.7 cms x 74.5 cms, condition: very good.

 This portrait of Captain Patrick Murray depicts him in the uniform of the 109th Regiment of Foot, otherwise known as The Bombay Infantry. The regiment was originally raised by the Honourable East india Company in 1853 as the 3rd Bombay Regiment and saw action during the Indian mutiny. After the crown took control of the Presidentency armies in the aftermath of the mutiny the regiment became part of the British Army  and embarked for England in 1877.
