Pristine beautifully preserved first issue RARE Zimbabwe $50 000 Cargill Cotton bearer cheque – dated 1/9/03 (first of the 2 date varieties) These bearer cheques, honoured by Standard Chartered bank, were the result of the acute cash shortage in Zimbabwe with Cargill Cotton instituting these fiscal emergency documents to pay the cotton farmers for their cotton produce. The Cargill Bearer cheques were the for runner of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s subsequently released bearer cheques to overcome their sluggish solution of the issue of locally valid traveller’s cheques; the latter requiring ID identification and a single use only – bearer cheques overcame this predicament. Why not just produce higher value bank notes? – allegedly not approved by Robert Mugabe.
