Carike Keuzenkamp - Ek Sing... CD

Ek Sing... by Carike Keuzenkamp is a landmark Afrikaans pop compilation album originally released in 1987. It serves as a defining musical time capsule of South Africa during the late 1980s.

The album is heavily built on themes of patriotism, South African geography, and historical narratives. Musically, it is anchored by lush 1980s synth-pop arrangements, traditional adult contemporary rhythms, and Keuzenkamps distinctively warm, comforting vocal delivery.

Academic and musical retrospectives highlight a sharp contrast regarding its release. Released in 1987 under a tense political State of Emergency in South Africa, Ek Sing... offered a comforting, deeply romanticised, and escapist view of the country through traditional ballads. It focused on peaceful landscapes, historic voyages, and local folklore rather than the contemporary political unrest.
