ON AUCTION IS A CAST BRASS PLATED SILVER COLOURED METAL REPOUSSE (IN RELIEF) GREYHOUND TRINKET OR SMALL CHANGE ALMS DISH. THIS DISH HAS A SMALL HAMMERED PUNCH HOLE JUST ABOVE THE EYE - ITS NOT EASILY VISIBLE FROM THE FRONT.
 
IT IS MADE FROM A NON MAGNETIC SILVER METAL AND APPEARS TO BE BRASS PLATED.
 
I HAVE FOUR OF THESE CAST BRASS DISHES ON AUCTION THIS WEEK. ALL FEATURE HUNTING OR GUARD DOG BREEDS THIS GREYHOUNDS AND A BULL MASTIFF. ALL ARE AT LEAST VINTAGE (ONE EVEN HAS AN ENGRAVED DATE OF 1857 ON THE BACK) AND SOME ONLINE LISTINGS INDICATE THEY WERE MADE IN ITALY.
 
Greyhounds are one of the oldest and fastest dog breeds, tracing back 4,000+ years to Ancient Egyptian tombs. Throughout history, they were favored by nobility. In 1016, English laws restricted greyhound ownership to the elite. Greyhounds are the fastest dog breed, reaching speeds up 72km/h, yet are famously calm "72-km/h couch potatoes". They were used for hunting and "coursing" deer, wolves, and hares due to their sharp eyesight (sighthounds) and incredible speed.
