We have searched high and low to match this painting to its artist, but haven't had much luck.

The signature does not match classic artist Jacques Villon's nor does it suit his Cubist style. No other resembling artists with that name have been found either.

It is a heavily textured oil painting, portraying a group of people making their way to a castle through the forest, all in a gloomy setting. The item is second-hand and has been the victim to the effects of time, which a close-up will reveal.
